Who holds your information
The agency responsible for the personal information described here is NEXO-PLATFORMS LIMITED, a company registered in New Zealand, which operates Nexo. You can reach us at support@nexoplatforms.co.nz.
If Nexo closes or is sold
If we shut down. We would tell you before it happened, not after, and give you time to take your own records with you — your documents, your job history, your invoices. Personal information we are not required to keep would be deleted.
Records with money on them — quotes, invoices, payments — would be kept for seven years, because New Zealand tax law requires it. That is a legal obligation, not a preference of ours, and it applies to the records whether or not Nexois still trading. Those documents also belong to the other person in the job: a tradie's invoice is the homeowner's proof of what she paid.
If the business is sold. We would tell you before your information transferred, not afterwards. A buyer takes on the same obligations we have under the Privacy Act 2020 — the law follows the information, not the company name.
That is not the same as selling your information, and we do not do that. Nexo does not sell, rent or trade personal information as a product, to anyone, for any purpose. A business changing hands and a customer list being sold are two different things, and only the first is described here.
What we cannot promise. We do not hold your information alone. Our database is run by Supabase and payments by Stripe, and each keeps its own copies under its own terms, including backups we do not control and cannot reach into. If we deleted everything on our side tomorrow, we could not guarantee the same of theirs — we can only tell you truthfully that this is how it works, rather than promise something we are not able to do.
Maps and directions
Nexo has no map and knows no coordinates. We do not use your location, we never ask for location permission, and we do not store a latitude or longitude for any address — we hold the address as you typed it and nothing else.
One thing to know: when a trade business taps Directionson a job they have won, the property address is passed to the maps app on their own phone — Apple Maps or Google Maps. That is a choice they make, on a job you have already accepted a quote for, and what happens to it then is covered by that app's own privacy policy, not ours. Nothing is sent unless they press it.
What we collect
Your name, email address and phone number. If you are a homeowner, the address of the property you are getting work done at. If you run a trade business, your business details, the trades you offer, and any licence or certificate you submit to us.
Messages you send through Nexo, the jobs you post or take, and the quotes and invoices that come out of them.
Licence numbers and evidence
A licence or policy number you give us is used to check the relevant public register and is never shown to anyone else — not on your public page, not to a homeowner, not to another business. The photo of the card you upload is stored privately and can only be read by the person at Nexo reviewing it.
What a homeowner sees is the class of licence and the date we checked it. Nothing more.
If you delete your account
Your name, email address and phone number are removed from your profile. Anywhere your name appeared, it reads “Deleted account”.
If you run a business: it stops taking new work, your public page stops resolving, your business details stop being readable, and your work photos are deleted.
What is kept, and why. Quotes, invoices and payment records stay for seven years, because Inland Revenue requires it. They stay attached to the businesses you dealt with, with your personal details taken off them.
Some things you typed stay too, and we would rather say so than let you find out later: the property address on a job, the messages in a conversation, and the text of any review you wrote. They belong to a record another person also relies on — the business that did the work, or the homeowners reading the review — and they are no longer attached to your name.
Your sign-in is closed permanently and cannot be restored. You can sign up again later with the same email address; it would be a brand new account.
Reviews you write, and what happens to them
A review is a document. It records what one customer said about one job, on one date, and the point of it is that other people can rely on it later.
A review outlives the business it is about. If a business leaves Nexo or its account is closed, the reviews written about it are not deleted. They were written for the homeowners reading them, not for the business, and removing them because the subject would prefer them gone is the one thing that would make every remaining review worth less.
And a review survives your own account being deleted, anonymised. Your name comes off it. What stays is the review, the rating, the month, and the suburb the work was in — so it reads as a verified customer in Mount Albert rather than as you. We keep the suburb because it is what makes a review checkable by somebody comparing businesses in their own area; we do not keep anything that links it back to you.
The first name and suburb shown on a review are taken at the moment you write itand are not updated afterwards. If you move house, a review you wrote two years ago still says where the work was done. That is deliberate: it is a record of what happened then.
You can change a review for fourteen days. After that it is frozen, and the business may write one public reply to it within the same window. Nexo does not write reviews, edit them, or score anybody.
We remove a review only on four written grounds: it identifies someone other than the business, it contains a threat or a slur or an accusation of a crime, it describes a job that did not happen, or it was not written by the customer. Disagreeing with a review is not one of them. A business is always shown what was removed and on what ground.
Someone else's details
A trade business can add its own customers to Nexo to keep track of jobs. If you are one of those customers and you would rather not be on the system, ask the business — they can remove your details themselves — or write to us and we will get it done.
Asking us
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or complain — write to support@nexoplatforms.co.nz. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
